2007 Welsh Grand National Result

Welsh Grand National 2007The 2007 Welsh Grand National was a very open contest as the online bookmakers made Gungadu the 4/1 favourite an he was just one of four Paul Nicholls entries. As always this race was run on soft ground and coming into the home straight there were five horses left in with a chance.

The favourite was in the bunch going for home up the straight but he soon found the going to tough and this left the other main contenders in Halcon Genelardais and Miko De Beauchene to last two the tough it out over the last few fences. The handicapper got this race spot on as these two were the top weights and clearly the best runners in the field.

The final fence in this year Welsh National was the deciding factor in the outcome in this race as the Alan King trained Halcon Genelardais winner of this race in 2006 made an error which stopped his momentum and allowed Miko De Beauchene to take the race in the final couple of hundred yards.

Both the first two home have a good future in the game as they are only 7 years of age and there will be more Grand Nationals for these two to contest in the next couple of years.
