Welsh National Tips 2019
The Welsh Grand National is often a race that is dictated by the weather with the race coming as it does so close to Christmas. More often than not we get wet weather at Chepstow in December so the race can turn into something of a war of attrition, with this in mind punters are advised to search out those horses who go well on soft ground. Remember that in the Welsh National which is a handicap you can get place terms of a 1/4 the odds on the first 4 home so there can often be some nice value on offer.

Welsh National General Tips
- The very first Welsh National tip that is a must when trying to narrow down your shortlist is make sure your selection has proven stamina and loves soft ground as this course is always a bog come late December.
- Consider all the Paul Nicholls and Alan King runners in the race. They have been targeting this race for the last few seasons with excellent results. Make sure you consider their second and third string runners as they may have as good a chance as their number 1 horse and at much better odds.
- Do not be afraid to back a novice jumper over the larger fences as the Chepstow fences do not take that much jumping.
- Look at horse down the handicap as this ties in with the novice jumper as they are unexposed over fences and as such may get in off a low weight.
Make sure you put these criteria into your selection process as we shall be doing this when putting up our Welsh National tip.
